Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week: Lawrence Timmons

Karlos Williams and Jameis Winston have each provided sparks for their offenses during their rookie seasons, but the top performance from a former Florida State player this week in the NFL comes from a veteran on the defensive side of the ball.

Pittsburgh Steelers’ linebacker Lawrence Timmons is the Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week for the week of November 9th through the 15th for his performance in the Steelers’ 30-9 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

Timmons finished the day with 10 total tackles, including seven solo stops and two for loss. Timmons also recorded a sack in the victory.

For the season, Timmons has 73 total tackles which leads Pittsburgh. Timmons is on pace to record more than 100 tackles for a fourth straight season and for the fifth time in his 9-year career.

Mario Edwards Jr., DE Oakland Raiders (NFL)
In Sunday’s 30-14 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders’ rookie defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. recorded a career-high 11 tackles, including eight solo tackles and a sack.

Dustin Hopkins, K Washington Redskins (NFL)
Washington Redskins’ kicker Dustin Hopkins was a perfect 4-for-4 on field goal attempts on Sunday with a long of 40 yards in a 47-14 win over the New Orleans Saints. Hopkins was also 5-for-5 on extra points to finish the day with 17 points and outscore the Saints by himself.

Jameis Winston, QB Tampa Bay Buccaneers (NFL)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ rookie quarterback Jameis Winston passed for 264 yards in Sunday’s 10-6 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Winston complete 22 of his 39 pass attempts and ran in the game-winning touchdown with under a minute to play. Winston was intercepted twice in the victory.
