It took a last second field goal from Roberto Aguayo on Saturday, but third-ranked Florida State ran the nation’s longest winning streak to 27 games with a 20-17 win over Boston College. FSU completed a perfect ACC slate for a second straight season as well.
As Florida State looks to stay perfect against rival Florida on Saturday, the Noled Out staff reflects on a narrow victory over Boston College by recognizing which Seminoles stood out in each aspect of the game in a segment called, “Game Balls”.
Offense
Mike Ferguson’s Game Ball: Rashad Greene, WR
It was another big afternoon for Rashad Greene as the Florida State senior caught eight passes for a game-high 106 yards. Greene’s 15-yard reception on the final drive of the game for the Seminoles not only put FSU in field goal range, but gave Greene the school-record for career receiving yards, surpassing Ron Sellers.
Jon Marchant’s Game Ball: Jameis Winston, QB
With the exception of an interception off of a deflected pass, Jameis Winston was once again spectacular for Florida State on Saturday. Winston finished 22-for-32 passing for 281 yards and a score. For the fourth time in five games, Winston led a game-winning drive in the fourth quarter as he helped take the Seminoles 66 yards in 12 plays to set up the winning field goal.
Defense
Mike Ferguson’s Game Ball: Jalen Ramsey, S
Over the last two weeks, sophomore safety Jalen Ramsey has been the heart and soul of the Florida State defense. On Saturday, Ramsey finished with eight total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and the only sack of the game for FSU.
Jon Marchant’s Game Ball: Mario Edwards Jr., DE
Florida State junior defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. was by far the best player for a defensive front that struggled against the run. Edwards had four total stops and one for loss, but was constantly getting penetration against a very good offensive line for Boston College.
Special Teams
Mike Ferguson’s Game Ball: Cason Beatty, P
Florida State junior punter Cason Beatty kicked just twice on Saturday, but averaged 49 yards-per-punt which included a 54-yard boot and a kick that was downed inside the 10-yard-line. As the holder on field goal attempts, Beatty did a good job of handling the final snap on the kick that put the Seminoles ahead for good.
Jon Marchant’s Game Ball: Roberto Aguayo, K
Redemption was sweet for sophomore kicker Roberto Aguayo on Saturday. After missing a kick of 40 yards late in the third quarter, Aguayo knocked home a 26-yarder with three seconds to go which proved to be the game-winner. Aguayo also connected on a 37-yard field goal early on and had four of his five kickoffs go for touchbacks.
