‘Noles Earn ACC Weekly Honors in Three Different Sports

The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its players of the week on Monday and Florida State players earned honors in three different sports.

ACC Pitcher of the Week
Lacey Waldrop, Senior

In two starts in Florida State’s weekend sweep over Boston College, Waldop allowed just four hits, a walk and an unearned run while striking out 15. Waldrop allowed three hits and a walk in Sunday’s complete game victory. For the season, the senior is 9-3 with an ACC-best 0.93 ERA.

ACC Rookie of the Week
Xavier Rathan-Mayes, Freshman

In two games, both losses, Florida State’s Xavier Rathan-Mayes averaged 23.5 points and 3.5 assists. In Wednesday’s 81-77 loss to Miami, Rathan-Mayes had a scoring spurt for the ages, going for 30 points in less than five minutes. At one point, Rathan-Mayes scored 26 straight Seminole points. Rathan-Mayes tied his own school freshman record with 35 points. Rathan-Mayes scored 12 for the ‘Noles in Saturday’s loss to Louisville. Rathan-Mayes leads Florida State this season, averaging 14.3 points and 4.4 assists-per-game.

Billy Strode, Senior

Billy Strode set a FSU record by recording saves in four straight games. In four appearances this past week for the ‘Noles, senior Billy Strode worked 3 2/3 shutout innings, allowing three hits. Strode struck out 10 of the 11 batters he retired during that stretch. For the season, Strode has an ACC-leading 5 saves and has yet to yield a run in six appearances.
