FSU Basketball Player of the Week: Xavier Rathan-Mayes

Florida State had a week off to prepare for Saturday’s regular season finale against Pittsburgh and it paid off as the Seminoles closed the year with a 61-52 victory. The star of the show for FSU was again redshirt freshman guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes.

Xavier Rathan-Mayes is the Florida State Basketball Player of the Week for the week of March 2nd through the 8th after finishing with game-highs of 19 points and 5 assists in Saturday’s victory.

Not only did Rathan-Mayes lead all scorers, he did so on a very efficient 5-for-8 shooting from the field. Rathan-Mayes was 2-for-3 from deep and 7-for-10 from the charity stripe.

Thanks largely to Rathan-Mayes’ performance on Saturday, Florida State avoided its first losing regular season in a decade. Rathan-Mayes is averaging 14.4 points and 4.4 assists-per-game for the season. He is the only player in the ACC to lead his team in both categories.

Florida State will open the ACC Tournament on Wednesday against Clemson.
