For the first time this season, Florida State dropped an ACC series as the Seminoles were swept over three games in South Bend. The Notre Dame pitching stifled a very good offense for FSU for most of the series as Florida State scored just four total runs. Though things didn’t go well in South Bend, the Seminoles remain 26-12 for the year and 11-7 in the ACC. Florida State begins a 5-game homestand on Tuesday against Florida before resuming ACC play Friday versus Pittsburgh.

Friday, April 10th
Cavan Biggio and Ryan Lidge each drove in two runs as Notre Dame held Florida State scoreless over the final seven innings to take the series-opener. Biggio evened the game with a 2-run home run in the third while Lidge added some much-needed insurance with a 2-run single in the seventh. Ryan Smoyer allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings to earn the win for the Fighting Irish while Boomer Biegalski took the loss for the Seminoles. A 2-run home run by Dylan Busby accounted for all of the FSU offense. Busby had two of the five Florida State hits.

Saturday, April 11th
Notre Dame starting pitcher Brandon Bielak allowed just a run on four hits in 7 1/3 innings as the Fighting Irish became the first ACC team this season to take a series from FSU. Catcher Ryan Lidge drove in a pair of runs for the second straight day as he and first baseman Zak Kutsulis each went 3-for-4 at the plate for Notre Dame. John Sansone scored the only Florida State run in the loss. Sean Guenther saved the game for Notre Dame for a second straight day by retiring each of the five hitters he faced.

Sunday, April 12th
Florida State starter Mike Compton pitched well in his return from an abdominal strain, but took the loss as Notre Dame completed the sweep of the Seminoles. Compton allowed two runs on just four hits in five innings while striking out six, but fell to 1-1 for the year. Zak Kutsulis hit a solo home run in the victory and Cavan Biggio added a RBI. The Seminoles squandered a huge opportunity in the sixth inning after D.J. Stewart cut the lead to one with a RBI single. With the bases loaded and no outs, Quincy Nieporte hit into a double play before Chris Marconcini popped out to end the inning. With the tying run in scoring position, Notre Dame’s Scott Tully struck out Taylor Walls and Hank Truluck to end the game.
