FSU Completes High-Scoring Sweep of UCF

Florida State continued a 14-game homestand with a mini series against a top 10 UCF team. Pitching was at a premium as the Seminoles won a pair of high-scoring contests to run their winning streak to 11 games and improve to 15-3 for the season. After holding off the Knights on Tuesday, Florida State mounted a furious late rally on Wednesday to complete the sweep. FSU will conclude its homestand and resume ACC play with three games against Wake Forest beginning on Friday.

Tuesday, March 10th

Florida State pounded out 13 hits as the Seminoles held off a late UCF rally to take the series opener. John Sansone hit his fourth home run of the year for the Seminoles while Chris Marconcini, Dylan Busby and Josh Delph each drove in a pair of runs in the victory. After trailing 11-3, UCF brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning, but FSU closer Billy Strode struck out JoMarcos Woods to end the game and pick up his ACC-leading seventh save. Woods homered for the Knights in the loss while Derrick Salberg plated three runs. Starter Alec Byrd picked up the win to improve to 3-0 on the season for the Seminoles.

Wednesday, March 11th

Florida State scored seven runs in the bottom half of the seventh to rally past UCF and complete the sweep. Quincy Nieporte had a career-day, going 4-for-4 with a pair of home runs, three runs scored and 7 RBIs. John Sansone scored two runs for the Seminoles and plated two more in the victory while Chris Marconcini touched home four times. Alex Deise allowed just a run in five innings of relief to pick up the win for FSU. UCF catcher Logan Heiser also left the yard twice and finished with four hits and 5 RBIs in the loss. Dylan Moore went 2-for-5 for the Knights with a home run and a pair of RBIs.
