FSU Streak at Nine as ‘Noles Sweep Eagles

Florida State began ACC play on the right foot as FSU completed a 3-game weekend sweep of Boston College to improve to 13-3 for the season. Florida State opened the weekend at Dick Howser Stadium with a shutout and concluded it by rallying past the Eagles in each of the final two games. Florida State will conclude a 14-game homestand this week with a 2-game set against UCF on Tuesday and Wednesday before resuming conference play versus Wake Forest next weekend.

Friday, March 6th

Mike Compton pitched a complete game shutout, striking out seven and allowing just two hits and a walk as Florida State took the series opener from Boston College. Dylan Busby, Taylor Walls and Quincy Nieporte all drove in a pair of runs for FSU in the victory. Walls and Danny De La Calle each scored twice.

Saturday, March 7th

After being held to just one hit through seven innings by Boston College’s John Gorman, Florida State scored three runs in the eighth to edge the Eagles and clinch a third straight series victory. After his RBI double broke up the shutout, Danny De La Calle came around to tie the game on an infield single by Darren Miller. Gage West was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to put FSU ahead for good. Seminoles’ starting pitcher Boomer Biegalski got a no-decision after allowing two runs on just three hits while striking out 10. The only runs for the Eagles came on a 2-run blast by Chris Shaw in the first. Bryant Holtmann pitched a scoreless eighth to pick up the win for Florida State while Billy Strode threw a perfect ninth to collect his sixth save of the year.

Sunday, March 8th

Florida State put back-to-back 4-run innings together in the fourth and fifth to run away from Boston College and complete the sweep on Sunday. Dylan Busby homered as he and Gage West each plated three runs. Cobi Johnson picked up the win for FSU, allowing three runs on five hits in 5 2/3 innings. Freshman Donovan Casey was 2-for-4 at the plate with a pair of runs scored and a RBI for the Eagles.
