Share Your Seminole Story: When and How Did You Become a FSU Fan?

In this week’s edition of “Share Your Seminole Story”, we asked our readers and social media followers when and how they first became Florida State fans.

From the Staff

No one in my family had ever been to college, so I wasn’t raised in a family with ties to any particular university, but my dad was for whatever reason, a Florida State fan. I watched my first game in 1992 at the age of 7 and instantly admired Charlie Ward and thought it was neat he played both football and basketball.

The first full football season I watched was the 1993 season and I think we all know what happened that year. Warrick Dunn going 80 yards down the sideline against Florida is still one of the greatest memories of my life and the 1994 Orange Bowl in which the Seminoles edged Nebraska 18-16 remains my favorite college football game of all-time.

I’ve since gone on to graduate from Florida State and in 2013, I covered the Seminoles’ run to the national championship from the press box for an online publication and I’m doing everything I can to raise my 2-year-old daughter to bleed garnet and gold. I think my dad would be the first to admit that he’s done a lot wrong in his life, but I’m glad he made me a Seminole.

Written Responses

My earliest memory of watching FSU is my father swearing about the Hurricanes during the 1987 season. But the moment I knew for myself that I loved everything Garnet and Gold and choosing to be a fan is when my father took me to see Charlie Ward in 1993 when FSU routed Clemson 57-0. The Warrick Dunn era & the 5th Quarter solidified my allegiance to a team that I have pulled for my entire life and will continue to pull for. Go Noles!

Some have family to thank…

Sort of…

For some, it was moving to the area or love at first sight…

For some it was a player or coach…

Some can’t explain…

Some were just born that way…
