In this week’s edition of “Share Your Seminole Story”, we asked our fans and readers which Florida State football player from 2014 they would miss most next season.

The easy answer this week looks to be quarterback Jameis Winston, but the Florida State player I’ll miss most was Winston’s favorite target. Filling the void Winston leaves behind won’t be easy, but replacing the program’s all-time leader in receptions and receiving yards as well as the only player to lead the Seminoles in receiving in four straight seasons won’t be either.
The reason I’ll miss Rashad Greene is not for the numbers he put up, but it was the way he carried himself both on and off the field. Covering a game against N.C. State in 2013, I spoke to Greene afterward and I asked if he felt his accomplishments were ever overlooked. He said he didn’t care about individual accolades, but only about team success.
Not only did Greene put up huge numbers over his career, but he had a knack for coming through in the clutch. Whether it was the game-winning catch against Notre Dame in the Champs Sports Bowl as a freshman, the winning score against Virginia Tech as a sophomore or the 49-yard catch and run that set up the winning touchdown as FSU defeated Auburn for the 2013 national championship, Greene was always the go-to target with the game on the line.
He carried himself with class and dignity and was a great representative of Florida State University. Two weeks ago, my wife and I had our second child. She’s named Greenly partially in honor of Rashad.

While there are many players from last season’s team that will be missed, I think that guys like Tre’ Jackson and Cameron Erving will be difficult to replace as well as Karlos Williams and Nick O’Leary. Jameis Winston is a once in a generation player and it may be another 20 years before we see someone of his caliber playing QB again. But the guy I will miss the most is Rashad Greene. There are so many moments to choose from that made him just special. I think we (FSU) may have more physically gifted receivers but none could be counted on more in clutch moments than Rashad. Oklahoma, Clemson and Notre Dame his freshman season, Virginia Tech as a sophomore. There was the magical junior year and all the times he just rose to the occasion during his senior season. I think Winston will be the guy who ‘Nole fans will tell their kids about but Rashad’s golden moments will be the ones we will remember in our golden years. Thanks for the memories Rashad.
