Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week: Telvin Smith

It was a big week for former Florida State players on the defensive side of the football in the NFL. The Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week for the week of December 15th through the 21st goes to Jacksonville Jaguars’ rookie linebacker Telvin Smith.

Smith had the best game of his young career on Thursday night in a 21-13 Jaguars win over the Tennessee Titans. Smith recorded a career-high 15 tackles which included 10 solo stops and one tackle for loss in the victory.

The 15 stops not only set a new career-best for Smith, but tied a league-high for tackles during Week 16.

On the season, Smith now ranks second on the Jaguars with 88 total tackles for the season. Smith is also third on the team with 8 tackles for loss and is tied for the team lead in fumble recoveries.

Among NFL rookies, Smith ranks fifth in the league in tackles. Smith’s rookie season will conclude Sunday as the Jaguars visit the Houston Texans.
