Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week: Sherman Johnson

Despite the NFL preseason getting into full swing and the Major League Baseball regular season hitting the home stretch, the Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week for the week of August 11th through the 17th comes on the minor league diamond.

This week’s top professional athlete from Florida State is former FSU third baseman Sherman Johnson. For the Advanced-Class A Inland Empire 66ers of the California League, Johnson was an ungodly 15-for-23 at the plate this week.

Johnson had multiple hits in each of the six games he played this week for the Los Angeles Angels’ affiliate which included home runs on Saturday and Sunday. In addition to Johnson’s ridiculous .652 batting average for the week and pair of long-balls, the infielder drove in eight runs and touched home plate 13 times. Johnson scored four runs in a 12-9 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm on Thursday in addition to having three 3-hits games during the week.
