Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week: Marcus Davis

Rookie Devon Travis had yet another huge week on the diamond for the Toronto Blue Jays, raising his average to .359, but the former Seminole who had the biggest week did so on the single-A level.

The Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week for the week of April 20th through the 26st goes to first baseman Marcus Davis of the Lake Elsinore Storm for his hitting in seven games in the Class-A Advanced California League.

The power-hitting lefty who once batted cleanup for the Seminoles went 15-for-27, good for a .556 average, this week with a home run and six driven in. Over the seven games, Davis hit in six of them and had multiple hits five times, raising his batting average from .175 to .254 in the process.

Davis had four hits including a home run on Monday in a 4-3 loss to the High Desert Mavericks. He closed the week with a 3-hit, 3-RBI showing in a 10-2 victory over Rancho Cucamonga Quakes.

After batting .322 a season ago, Davis looks to be overcoming a slow start in 2015 for the San Diego Padres’ affiliate. Despite the rough beginning to 2015, Davis ranks second on his team in home runs and third in runs scored through 18 games.
