Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week: Devon Travis

The start of the 2015 Major League Baseball season is just around the corner, but with spring underway, a number of former Seminoles are making a push for a big league roster spot. After outfielder Tyler Holt stood out last week, this week’s top professional performance from a former Florida State player came from an infielder with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Second baseman Devon Travis is the Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week for the week of March 16th through the 22nd for his performance in four Grapefruit League games this past week with the Blue Jays.

Over the four games, Travis went a remarkable 7-for-11 at the dish with a pair of runs scored and four driven in. Travis hit in each of the four games he appeared this week for the Blue Jays and had multiple hits in three of them.

After going 2-for-3 with a RBI in Tuesday’s 4-2 win over the New York Yankees, Travis went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs in Thursday’s 6-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox. In Saturday’s 6-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies, Travis was 2-for-4 with a run scored and another driven in before finishing the week 1-for-2 with a run scored in Sunday’s 3-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

In an effort to land a roster spot, Travis is hitting .368 in 15 games this spring and leads the club with 14 hits. Of the 14 hits, six have gone for extra bases. A former member of the Detroit Tigers’ organization, Travis has yet to appear in a regular season game.
