Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week: Buster Posey

It was a good week for former Florida State stars playing professionally, but the best week for a former FSU athlete came from the Seminoles’ biggest star on the baseball diamond.

San Francisco Giants’ catcher Buster Posey is the Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week for the week of June 22nd through the 28th after a huge week at the plate.

In six games for the Giants this week, Posey was 9-for-24 with a home run and a remarkable 12 RBIs. Posey’s lone homer was a grand slam in 6-0 win over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday. Four of Posey’s nine hits went for extra bases and he finished the week with six runs scored.

For the season, Posey is hitting .300 and is tied for fifth in the National League with 53 RBIs. Posey leads N.L. catchers in most major categories.

Roneeka Hodges, G Atlanta Dream (WNBA)
In two games this week, Roneeka Hodges averaged 10.5 points while shooting 7-for-13 from the field. Hodges also averaged 2.5 assists and a block.

Clevan Thomas, CB San Jose SaberCats (Arena Football)
Clevan Thomas had five tackles and an interception in the San Jose SaberCats’ 62-27 win over the Spokane Shock on Thursday.

Elih Villanueva, P (Minor Leagues)
Elih Villanueva tossed a 4-hit shutout for the Bowie Baysox of the Double-A Eastern League on Monday in a 6-0 win over the Trenton Thunder. Villanueva needed just 90 pitches to go the distance and yielded just a pair of walks for the Baltimore Orioles’ affiliate.
