Marvin Jones to Have FSU Jersey Retired

Former Florida State linebacker Marvin Jones’ No. 55 will be retired, the school announced Monday. Jones starred for the Seminoles from 1990 to 1992, winning the Butkus and Lombardi Award in his final season at FSU while finishing fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting.

Jones was a 3-time All-American including a first-team and Consensus All-American in each of his final two seasons in Tallahassee before being selected fourth overall by the New York Jets in the 1993 NFL Draft.

During his 3-year FSU career, Jones finished with 369 tackles, 27 for loss, 5.5 sacks, 3 interceptions and a forced fumble. Jones was inducted into the Florida State Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.

Jones’ jersey will officially be retired on October 10th as the Seminoles take on Miami at Doak Campbell Stadium. The school stopped retiring numbers in 1997, but now retires jerseys, so current and future FSU players will be eligible to wear No. 55.

Jones becomes the 10th player in FSU history to have his jersey retired, joining cornerbacks Deion Sanders and Terrell Buckley, linebacker Derrick Brooks, Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks Chris Weinke and Charlie Ward, wide receivers Fred Biletnikoff and Ron Sellers, running back Warrick Dunn and defensive lineman Ron Simmons.
