The first true road game of 2014 for top-ranked Florida State could not have gotten off to a worse start as the Seminoles trailed by 17 after one quarter. Florida State however, dominated the final three periods to walk away with a 56-41 victory to run its school-record winning streak to 20 games. With Florida State now turning its attention to Wake Forest, the Noled Out staff hands out game balls for Saturday’s victory in Raleigh:
Offense
Mike Ferguson’s Game Ball: Karlos Williams, RB
It was a career-day for Florida State running back Karlos Williams as the senior finished with 126 yards rushing and three touchdowns — both career-highs — on 21 carries. Two of Williams’ three scores came in the final quarter including a 12-yard scamper with just over two minutes to play that put the final nail in the Wolfpack coffin.
Jon Marchant’s Game Ball: Rashad Greene, WR
Rashad Greene has led Florida State in receiving in every game this season following another big effort on Saturday. Greene finished with 11 catches for 125 yards — both game-highs — and a touchdown in the victory. Greene’s late third quarter touchdown over a N.C. State defender put the Seminoles ahead for good. Greene now sits less than 600 yards shy of breaking Ron Sellers’ career Florida State record for receiving yards.
Defense
Mike Ferguson’s Game Ball: Jalen Ramsey, S
The Florida State secondary struggled early, but safety Jalen Ramsey settled in to have a monster day. Ramsey finished the day with 10 total stops, a sack, 1.5 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles which included one in the red zone. Ramsey also had a pass break-up in the victory.
Jon Marchant’s Game Ball: Eddie Goldman, DT
For a second week in a row, Florida State defensive tackle Eddie Goldman was a load on the inside for the Seminoles. Goldman finished with seven total stops, a sack and 1.5 tackles for loss in the victory. With Nile Lawrence-Stample and Mario Edwards Jr. both out, Goldman is shaping up to be an enforcer for the FSU defensive line.
Special Teams
Mike Ferguson & Jon Marchant’s Game Ball: Jesus Wilson, KR
On a day in which Florida State sophomore wide receiver Jesus “Bobo” Wilson had a career-day receiving with six catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns, he also had the biggest kick return of the day. Wilson’s 34-yard return early set the Seminoles up near midfield as Florida State marched just 55 yards for a touchdown on its opening drive.
