FSU WR Jones Ruled Academically Ineligible

The Florida State receiving corps got a bit thinner on Saturday as it was learned that sophomore wide receiver Isaiah Jones will miss the entire 2014 season after being ruled academically ineligible by the NCAA.

At 6’4″ and 200 pounds, Jones is the tallest Seminole receiver on the roster. The Milton product finished with just two catches for 31 yards as a freshman in 2013 while appearing in five games, but was expected to take on a bigger role with Florida State. FSU is replacing two of their top three receivers from a season ago, including the 6’5″ Kelvin Benjamin, who scored the game-winning touchdown in the BCS National Championship.

Florida State still has depth at the wide receiver position, but lacks experience aside from senior Rashad Greene, who has led FSU in receiving in each of the past three seasons. With now the loss of Jones, all Florida State receivers other than Greene combined for just 21 catches in 2013.
