FSU Swept by Clemson to Close Regular Season

Florida State will head into the ACC Tournament on a 5-game losing streak after the Seminoles were swept by Clemson at Dick Howser Stadium in the final series of the regular season. FSU managed just two total runs over the first 26 innings of the 3-game set and will be the fourth seed in the conference tournament, which begins on Tuesday. The Tigers’ sweep of FSU also marked the first time this season the ‘Noles lost a home series. The Seminoles finish the regular season 37-19 and 17-13 in ACC play — its worst conference winning percentage since going 18-14 in 2006.

Thursday, May 14th

Clemson starting pitcher Matthew Crownover allowed just a run on five hits in seven innings as the Tigers stifled Florida State to take the series-opener. Reed Rohlman scored a pair of runs for Clemson in the victory while catcher Chris Okey was 2-for-4 with a RBI. Dylan Busby’s solo home run accounted for all the FSU offense.

Friday, May 15th

Starting pitching fueled Clemson for a second straight day as Zack Erwin allowed just three hits and no walks in six shutout innings to earn the win. Reed Rohlman and Steven Duggar each homered and combined to score four runs. Second baseman Tyler Krieger was 3-for-5 with a run and two driven in. John Sansone was the only Seminole to reach base twice.

Saturday, May 16th

Jake Long allowed just one run in six innings as Clemson became the first team to sweep the Seminoles in Tallahassee this season. Reed Rohlman continued his big series for the Tigers, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs in the victory. Eli White also had three hits for Clemson to go with two runs and a RBI. Florida State tried to make things interesting, scoring five runs in the ninth. D.J. Stewart’s third hit of the day was a 3-run blast which was followed by a solo home run by Quincy Nieporte. Drew Carlton lasted just 3 1/3 innings and took the loss for FSU to fall to 3-5 on the year.
