FSU Baseball Player of the Week: Billy Strode

After a 4-3 start, Florida State enjoyed a nice bounce-back week, going a perfect 4-0. The Seminoles defeated Jacksonville 10-7 on Wednesday night before completing a 3-game sweep of UNC-Wilmington over the weekend. FSU won its four games this week by just seven combined runs and it may not have been possible without the lefty in the back of the bullpen.

Closer Billy Strode is the Florida State Baseball Player of the Week for the week of February 22nd through March 1st. Strode has been lights out at the end of games for the Seminoles.

Strode earned the save in each of Florida State’s four victories this week. Strode worked a total of 3 2/3 innings and allowed just three hits while striking out 10 of the 11 batters he retired. With the go-ahead run on base for UNC-Wilmington on Sunday, Strode struck out the final two batters to complete the sweep.

Come fall, a Florida State quarterback will have the unenviable task of trying to replace Jameis Winston, but Strode is off to a stellar start in doing so at the back end of the bullpen. In six appearances this season, Strode has yet to allow an earned run and has struck out 11 batters in just 5 2/3 innings. His 5 saves leads the ACC.
