It was a disappointing end to another solid season for Florida State over the weekend as the Seminoles were handled by rival Florida in the Gainesville Super Regional. FSU was outscored 24-9 over the two games, but one outfielder was responsible for five of the nine Seminole runs.
Junior D.J. Stewart is the Florida State Baseball Player of the Week for the Gainesville Super Regional.
Stewart went just 2-for-9 in Gainesville, but each of his two hits left the yard. Stewart hit a 2-run home run in the eighth inning to break up the shutout in Friday’s 13-5 loss to Florida.
On Saturday, Stewart blasted a second 2-run home run in the fifth inning. He finished the Super Regional with three runs scored and four RBIs.
With a .318 batting average, 15 home runs, 59 RBIs and a .500 on-base percentage, Stewart led the Seminoles in virtually every offensive category in 2015. Expected to go very high in this week’s Major League Baseball Amateur Draft, Stewart has likely played his last game for FSU.
