Despite being down to UCF multiple times on Wednesday, FSU roared to a 15-11 victory thanks to some reliable bats and surprising performances. Later on in the week, the Seminoles regained their composure after a loss to Wake Forest and won the series with two straight victories.
First baseman Quincy Nieporte is the Florida State Baseball Player of the Week for the dates of March 9th through March 15th.
The community college transfer Nieporte struggled earlier in the season, but is finally showing his true potential for the ‘Noles. On Wednesday against UCF, Nieporte was 4-for-4 at the plate, consisting of two home runs (one of them a grand slam) and two singles. He totaled ten runs for the Seminoles with seven RBIs and three runs scored.
Against Wake Forest, Nieporte once again came through for his team. In three games against the Demon Deacons, Nieporte totaled 28 putouts, three RBIs, and four hits. It’s not hard to see why the ‘Noles went 4-1 in the past five games.
The emergence of Nieporte bodes well for a Seminole team that appears to be getting better by the day. FSU travels to Gainesville on Tuesday to face a top 5 Florida Gator team in a rivalry matchup that should be fun to watch. The Seminoles then close out the week with a three game series against the Virginia Cavaliers.
